MATRIMONIAL/ FAMILY LAW ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
This position reports to our Rochester, NY location
Salary Range: $120,000-$150,000
Are you an experienced matrimonial/family law attorney looking to grow your practice in a supportive and dynamic law environment? Underberg & Kessler LLP is seeking a Matrimonial/ Family Law Associate Attorney with 4-7+ years of experience in matrimonial and family law litigation. This is an opportunity to join a growing litigation team that values mentorship, collaboration, and client service.
Position Overview:
Primarily handles matrimonial and family law matters, representing clients in New York State Supreme and Family Courts in divorce, post-divorce, child custody, child support, and family offense matters. Drafts prenuptial agreements. Meets with clients for intake and consultation meetings. Drafts pleadings, motions, discovery demands, Statements of Net Worth, Statements of Proposed Disposition, orders and Judgment Rolls. Runs child support and spousal maintenance calculations and gives analysis to clients. Handles cases independently and works collaboratively with partners to develop and execute effective legal strategies. Able to handle a caseload. Available to assist in general litigation matters handling legal research and writing projects for the litigation department.
Client Representation:
Meets with clients for new client consultations
Serves as lead counsel in matrimonial and family law court proceedings to include representing clients in court appearances, preliminary conferences, settlement negotiations and hearings
Drafts pleadings, Motions, Orders to Show Cause, Statements of Net Worth, Statements of Proposed Disposition, Separation Agreements, Orders and Judgment Rolls
Navigate highly sensitive personal and financial issues with discretion and professionalism
Conduct in-depth legal research and provide strategic litigation counsel
Case Management:
Independently manage complex caseloads with minimal oversight
Lead discovery efforts, including managing document production and deposition preparation
Shape and execute strategies by collaborating closely with partners and clients
Firm & Practice Development:
Participate in practice group meetings, firm-wide training programs and initiatives
Mentor junior attorneys and support staff
Is a team player able to work with multiple attorneys in the litigation department on projects and cases.
Engage in business development efforts and client relationship management
Qualifications:
4-7+ years of matrimonial/family law experience
J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York State
Excellent writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage deadlines and juggle multiple matters
Additional litigation experience (employment, creditor’s rights, commercial litigation) a plus
